Ian Berry interviewed by Brenda Emmanus for BBC London in the Gallery of Behind Closed Doors with shots in the East London Studio and shooting the scenes for his work.

The show continues until the 30th November 2016 at 14 Percy Street.

Ian Berry filmed on the Opening Night

Ian was interviewed by Milzabud Celeste for Chuckie Vision on the night of the opening. Here you will find one of Ian's most open interviews and see the energy in the crowd viewing the collection for the first time. The show is still open at 15 Percy Street until the 30th November.

My Beautiful Laundrette

The installation My Beautiful laundrette would not have been possible without many amazing contributions from many talented people.

The first to mention is Luke Aan De Wiel, an experienced model maker, set builder, prop maker and all round top human being.

His work has predominantly consisted of providing creative, beautifully crafted solutions to the advertising industry (both stills and TV), the film and music industries. He has also worked extensively in the exhibition and editorial worlds.

He collaborated here with Ian Berry to make the washing machines for the laundrette and also helped with the installation.

Then of course there are the jeans, Pepe Jeans London have supplied many for Ian to work with over the last few years, of which he particularly likes using the washes from denim Pepe sends. 

On the dryers, you may see Ian has tried a new technique. While known for his handcrafted, painstaking work cutting up pieces of denim, here Ian experimented with the super creative talented Moreno De Angelis to try lasering the denim to get the reflections of the washing machines opposite. Moreno is at the Iskoteca lab in Italy and is a creative genius with laundry methods as a brilliant chemist. This is a technology Ian is wishing to pursue with seeing the full potential and possibilities

Ian Berry at BAM at the South Bank Centre with CALM

We are pleased to announce a number things here, firstly, that Ian Berry will work to support CALM - A charity very close to his heart. He has seen the charity grow from the early days into the succes it is now. A charity thathas brought so much attention to its major cause.

THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIVING MISERABLY, or CALM, is a registered charity, which exists to prevent male suicide in the UK.   In 2014, male suicide accounts for 76% of all suicides and is the single biggest cause of death in men under 45 in the UK. 

Calm will work with the Being a Man Festival at the South Bank Centre this coming weekend.

This year they will look at what it means to be a hero, from the artists who challenge expectations, to the heroism it takes to embrace your true identity. The heroes include award-winning artist, BAFTA-winning TV presenter, Reith Lecturer and best-selling author Grayson Perry, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) patron Professor Green who in recent documentaries has brought attention to a range of issues from homelessness to dangerous dogs, male suicide and depression; the founding fathers of hip hop, The Last Poets alongside Ashley Walters; trailblazing solo artist and frontman of Bloc Party, Kele Okereke; and Sir Roger Moore, who reflects candidly on stepping into the shoes of the ultimate on-screen hero, 007.

Ian Berry will work with CALM to hel make and design their next award winning magazine, the Calmzine. Part of it live and with full interaction. Attendees can have their picture taken in front on the blown up front cover. So get you tickets here

Ian Berry meets Sir John Hegarty

Ian started his professional career as an Art Director in Advertising. As a student his idol was John Hegarty, the founder of BBH famed for many of the most iconic ads, including one of a particular denim brand. Ian said that as a student, they would want to do anything to get the attention of John Hegarty and other Creative Directors.

It appears he has, but it s too late for Ian in Adland. They met at Johns new agency The Garage Soho where one of Ian's Launderette's hang. They spent some good time talking on mutual contacts in the ad world, Johns new agency and of course about Ian's work as well as launderettes.

I know Ian was really touched to meet him and his kind comments on his work, as well as saying 'art should touch people' it also reminded Ian of the past in advertising.

There is a lot to come from Ian Berry in future, but tongue in cheek, it's great that Campaign magazine reported on this meeting and said 'John had met his match!

Installation | My Beautiful Laundrette

The Laundrette is now fully installed and ready to visit with the Catto Gallery at 15 Percy Street in Fitzrovia. With washing machines and dryers, benches and tiles all made of denim this is truly something to see this month in London.

Behind Closed Doors 16-30 November

The show is now open to the public until the 30th November at 14 Percy Street, Fitzrovia, London with the Catto Gallery. Everyone is welcome to come and see the works in person, many people find they are much different in real life to how they appear online so come and see for yourself.

Ian Berry on Jo Good's BBC London Radio

Jo Good was interviewing Ian Berry for BBC Radio London so she came to view the show before doing so, and what a move that was changing the whole context of the interview, as she was amazed to see the work in real life. Rather than Ian having to describe his work, Jo spoke quite passionately about it.

Behind Closed Doors on the BBC

Brenda Emmanus came once again to see Ian Berry's exhibition after covering the last Catto Gallery show with BBC London and Entertainment. The team came over early in the morning of the opening and spent a long time with all the pieces and especially the installation. The item went out on the evening of the Private View on tuesday 15th November, and we will post it on here later.
